This Garage Door Opener service call in PCB was not what I expected..
Sometimes, in the service and repair industry, we come across installations or repairs done by others that are so fundamentally incorrect that they could be dangerous, or so poorly done that they almost look ridiculous—if not for the real risks involved. We as consumers inherently want to get the best value for our money. But as the sayings go, 'cheaper isn't always better' and 'sometimes you get what you pay for.' This was a lesson learned for this homeowner. We were called because the garage door opener wasn't working correctly. What we found when we arrived was wholly unexpected. The installation of this opener was so poor and unsafe that there were exposed electrical wires rubbing and shorting with each use, and the eye sensors were hung above the garage instead of being set at floor level to prevent the door from coming down onto a person, child, or pet that could be seriously injured or come down onto an object and damage the door itself. This opener installation was no where near being close to code. Some competitors might rush to finish jobs quickly or hire people who don’t have enough training or experience, leading to work that doesn't follow safety rules and puts customers at risk. As honest professionals, how can we just stand by and ignore work that’s faulty and unsafe?
All About Garage Doors prides itself on being honest, fair, and competitively priced in our area, but something more than that is that we pride ourselves on our standard of work. We offer products that we stand behind and would use in our own homes, and we don't cut corners on safety or workmanship. We have decades of experience in garage door service and repair and we use that knowledge to give our customers the highest quality service.
This was a tough lesson for our customer, as they originally paid someone to install the opener and have had nothing but trouble out of it since, but then they also had to hire us to safely rewire the opener, and re-hang the eye sensors so that they actually function as intended.
And yes, when asked why they chose the original company for the job, the answer was "But they were cheaper."
